Call for Papers | Special Issue on Coronavirus/COVID-19
Aims and scope of the Special Edition
As the coronavirus pandemic is spreading across the world, now more than ever it is important to promote accurate and reproducible methods and protocols, which are readily available to the bio-medical community. Therefore, Bio-protocol has decided to dedicate a special issue for COVID-19 and other coronavirus-related protocols. We welcome protocols used in basic science research, in medical research, and in bioinformatics. We also welcome protocols from related research on other coronaviruses. We have a dedicated team of editors who will scan the relevant literature and invite authors to submit their protocols. We also welcome authors to send us a presubmission inquiry about their protocols.
About Bio-protocol journal:
Established in 2011 by a group of postdoctoral researchers at Stanford University, Bio-protocol’s mission is to improve research reproducibility and usability through the publication of high quality peer-reviewed life science protocols. Bio-protocol journal has grown to approximately 3,000 protocols contributed by over 10,000 scientists worldwide. Bio-protocol editorial and reviewing boards consist mostly of postdocs and junior faculty members. These early-career life-science researchers, who actively and routinely design, conduct and supervise lab experiments, are well positioned to assess the quality and clarity of protocols.

Bio-protocol has built tight collaborations with several high-profile research journals/publishers (e.g. Science/AAAS & eLife) to advance our mutual goal of making the scientific literature more reproducible.
Areas that protocols will focus on:
  • Basic science research
  • Medical/clinical research
  • COVID-19 detection kits in development
Typically we only accept protocols from journal articles. However, due to the rapid rate of preprint publications during this emergency, we will also invite and publish protocols from preprints. We will further dedicate a section of this special issue to protocols of COVID-19 detection kits in development.
Submission instructions
Authors interested in being part of the Special can fill in the presubmission inquiry here. Our editors will review the inquiries and the submission link will be provided afterwards. The manuscripts should follow the formatting guidelines of Bio-protocol.

All submissions will be published as preprints upon submission and update them after they go through peer-review. Submissions before July 31, 2020 will be considered for the Special Issue.
